Can you give the perfect clue before anyone else? What Were You Thinking? is a guessing game for horrible mind readers, and it's as fun to watch as it is to play.

Break into two teams. Shuffle the Letter Tiles and place them on The Board until it’s full. Pick one person from each team to be the Guesser. It’s your team’s job to get your Guesser to say the word from the Word Card by giving them a two word clue that starts with letters from The Board. For example, if your word is “Penguin,” your team might decide to give “Snow Bird” as a clue. But hurry, because if the other team yells out a clue first, their Guesser can guess before yours. If they get it right, that team gets to flip over the letters they used for a clue (Ex. if the winning clue is “waddling tuxedo,” they’d flip over “w” and “t”.) The team that flips 5 letters in a row wins.

This family board game makes you flex your creativity to think up unique (or outrageous) clues. But it's also an easy-to-learn and simple-to-play strategy game that's different every time you play.

What's In the Box?

What Were You Thinking? comes with:

  • 36 Letter Tiles
  • 100 Cards
  • 1 Board

Plus, one instruction manual that you will probably skim.

    Uproarious fun for all!

Ever wanted to learn how to read minds? Well this is NOT going to help you with that. However, if you wanted to laugh and have a fantastic time with your friends and family, it WILL help with that.

    An Unexpected Oatmeal Game

This is a wonderful game that is good for competitive and collaborative groups alike. We first played on the collaborative mode and had such a fun time as one team trying to figure out how to best describe the secret word to the guesser - it was funny to see what each of us thought the other would get. Sometimes we were right - and sometimes... Not! This mode was very different than other Oatmeal games and really made us think (but in a good way) and collaborate without giving too much away. It was very refreshing and fun!

Once on competitive mode, it was more more "traditional Oatmeal" but still just as fun, with the competitive aspect of trying to make sure that you are more quick thinking than the other group. It is still a unique game that made us think and work together. We thought it was so fun, a new one to add into the rotation and we truly enjoyed every second of this game - regardless of the mode you play.

    Good title

Hey, we already did a review, but we’ll do another because we REALLY have been enjoying this game. So we wish we could say 4.5 stars!! Anyhow, we love the “never say die” mentality you need to take when 2 of the early clues fail and you have to be perfect the rest of the game to win. VERY satisfying to battle back.

We play it with as few as 2 people, taking turns giving and guessing. Last night we played with 5 couples and had a blast with the girls vs the guys challenge. The Cooperative Mode is ideal for learning the game or for small numbers of players. But the Competitive Mode turns up the tension and the laughs. So fun!

    Play with 4 or more.

I have only had the opportunity to play the game with three people, not four, so I have only played the "cooperative" version of the game, rather than "competitive" mode which requires four or more. Also, full disclosure, I did receive a free version of the game to playtest for review, but that has not affected the rating. I am reviewing it as though I had purchased it for $20.

The "cooperative" mode of the game, which requires three or more players, is moderately fun. You all essentially work as a team to get one member of the group to guess the word above their head, but you collectively only get one guess. However, there is no one that you are playing "against," just your own communication failures as a team, which leads to some hilarious moments of miscommunication and the occasional painful hindsight. This mode was simple enough to learn and fun for a couple rounds, but if this were the only mode, gameplay would get boring fast.

However, there is a competitive mode for four or more players where you split into teams, each of which has a guesser who are both trying to guess the same word. The same rules still apply, except this time, each team races to come up with a clue since only the first team to agree on one gets to offer it to their guesser. This adds a competitive flair and organic race against time as each time vies to come up with the best clue fastest (which would probably lead to more confusion for their guessers and hilarity over all). This mode seems much…
