Another fun game from Exploding Kittens, but one with a few flaws unfortunately.
The setup and concept is easy, share cards from the entire deck with all the players, place the player on the jar and the pickle on the plate, and you’ll be ready to go.
Unfortunately, this is where the first problem arose. The game comes in a cylindrical plastic container and because of this the player comes out curved, it took quite a while to flatten out enough to be able to sit the pickle on it without falling off, we managed out eventually, but it was never ideal.
Anyway, on with the game.
Each player takes it in turn to reveal the card from the top of there deck. If they reveal a pickle card, they attempt to grab the pickle, before any other player can grab the plate, making the pickle fall into the container.
This in itself is a lot of fun, there are only a few pickle cards, the rest are things that look like pickles so it’s easy to grab the pickle when a green banana card spears instead!
The action was fast and fun, but it highlighted one flaw that we found it difficult to address. It was inherently easier to grab the pickle, than it was to grab the side of the plate and remove it, giving a distinct advantage to the pickle grabber vs the plate grabber.
We made adjustments to help balance things but ultimately, more pickles were grabbed than plates.
A fun, fast game, with some inherit flaws that made it challenging enjoy over repeated plays.
