Exploding Kittens: Curse You!

The cards… great additions. The art work…exactly what I hoped for. The new twist on the game…definitely a welcomed addition. This series of card games are my favorite and expansions like this are exactly why. Same exploding kittens fun…new twists that add more excitement.

As usual, Exploding Kittens put out another game i love. If you haven't played any of these games before, it is kind of like a push your luck game but as the game continues, the safety net shrinks.

This edition introduces a legacy component. As your group plays and conditions are met, you are able to open the sealed envelopes included in the box. So far I have only opened one. And I am very much looking forward to the rest being opened.

While I, personally, would not combine this with other EK sets (maybe after all the envelopes are open?) you can do so if you like. You would want to either get card sleeves or just be ok with different colored backs.

Replay value seems to be the primary goal of this game. The specialty of this versus regular Exploding Kittens is permanently changing the game. I admit at first I was worried. I have played a non-EK game called My City where you permanently modify your board as you play. While My City is a good game, it hurts the replay value for me. There is a infinite way to play it but you can never run through the campaign again. Exploding Kittens Curse You is different. Sure you can only open the envelopes once but this game is also not a campaign. It does start as a basic game of Exploding Kittens using base game cards and some from early expansions although all the art work is new. Once the first game is over it changes. You get to start opening mystery packs. The first is a special card that allows additional packs to be open when played. While I have not seen the final pack the middle ones start adding charms and curses that can change the game up as well as cards that usually move curses or charms to others in some way. Having the ability to discard 3 cards to act a defuse is the strongest one we uncovered so far. Each pack also lets you add stickers of the rules to the rule book. Although EK loves to say learn with a video they have some of the best rule books around. I still have a desire to integrate every version of Exploding Kittens together even though many like Curse You here is stand alone. It just keeps getting harder and harder at this point, but it just shows how…

This is another clever twist on the basic Exploding Kittens mechanic, with additional cards that get added over time. It's great the first few plays through, but once you get through all the adds, it plays like Exploding Kittens (with different cards, of course). A good addition to the collection.

I don't want to give any spoilers here, so i'll be vague. The rulebook is intentionally incomplete. This is because each new, magical card is revealed through the first series of games that you play. As you finish each game, you open a new envelope containing a couple new buff/debuff cards. The envelope also contains stickers for you to stick on the rule book, eventually completing all the rules. What a unique and fun way to introduce new cards into the Exploding Kittens universe! I couldn't be happier with this release. The new cards add a whole new dynamic to the game. 5-stars, and only because i can't give 6!
